Moving in fall can be a great way to not only save money by avoiding the “busy season” of summer, but also a great opportunity to secure your first-choice dates and times for your move. Calling and booking your move date with Fallon Moving & Storage as early as possible can also help to relieve stress and ensure that you are as prepared as possible for your relocation. However, moving during the fall can also mean lower temperatures and oftentimes, unpredictable weather.
By following a few key tips and tricks, you can be prepared for a fall move that is smoother and more stress-free than you thought possible. After helping thousands of happy household moving customers successfully move all over the world, the team at Fallon Moving recommends the following for a great fall moving experience, from start to finish.
1. Pack Smart – After you book your moving date well in advance, you get to start the hard part—starting to pack. If you take the time to stay organized, detailed and set aside ample time, packing doesn’t have to be stressful. Our team always strongly suggests you use sturdy, durable containers for all of your items. Pack like items together and label each container with details about the contents and what room it goes in. For example, coming across a box labeled “Kitchen box 1 of 5: Silverware and knives” is a lot easier to sort and unpack than a pile of mystery boxes haphazardly marked simply “kitchen”—or better yet, a box with no label and items from all over the house. Make it easy to unpack on your move-in day and pack smart.
2. Set Up Early – Just as it would be very uncomfortable to move into a new house in summer and have no air conditioning, having no heat, electricity or other necessary utilities ready to go would be a hassle you definitely want to avoid. Before you’re out of your current house or office, be sure and transfer/set up all utilities to be turned on at your new space the day you move in. Doing so will cross off one more thing from your moving-in to-do list!
3. Prepare for the Weather – With unexpected cold spells, rain and other weather conditions that are less-than-ideal for moving, be prepared. As you’re packing up your belongings, be sure and set aside necessary items such as spare sweaters, rain jackets, umbrellas, tarps and other essentials to help keep your things (and your family!) warm and dry, no matter what Mother Nature decides to do on your big day.
