Move-in week at University of Hartford is September 1 through September 8. Over the summer, you should have received an email from the college with your room assignment and specific move-in date. If you did not, contact the school to get the information.
Students moving to University of Hartford can enlist the help of Howie’s Helpers—current students at UHart who have volunteered to help arriving student move in. Whether you bring all the help you need or use the generous services of one of Howie’s Helpers, here are some college move-in tips to keep in mind:
- Pick up your key in the Gengras
Student Union
- Take a look at your room before
you start moving things is to see if it needs to be cleaned first.
- Be sure that all items are labeled
with name, building, and room number.
- Don’t leave vehicles being
unloaded unattended.
Another thing to consider as you plan you move is that each building has four floors, and there are no elevators. If you’re bringing helpers, make sure they will be able to handle the stairs.
Much of College Moving Starts Before Move-In Week
Planning for your college move begins well before move-in day. You’ll have to shop for all the things you’ll need to outfit your dorm room and make it your home for the semester. UHart provides the following in each dorm room:
- Bed
- Dresser
- Closet
- Desk and chair
If you’re staying in a room with a common area, the school also provides a kitchen table and chair. Some of the items that are NOT provided for the common areas include:
- Living room furniture
- Dishes
- Cooking implements
The above will need to be furnished by students. Also on your shopping list for dorm life at UHart should be:
- Extra-long twin sheets and bedding
- Towels
- Shower shoes
- Throw rugs
- Desk lamp
- Hangers
- Mirror
- Trash can
- Laundry supplies
- Computer
- TV
- First aid kit
- Fan
- Water filter pitcher
You can find a comprehensive list on the UHart website. Just
as important as what to bring is what not
to bring. Becoming familiar with the list of prohibited items will save you
from wasting money on things you won’t be allowed to keep in the dorms.
Prohibited items include:
Also, hotplates, crockpots, and similar items are only
permitted in dorm areas with full kitchens. If you’re not sure if they are
allowed in your residence, ask your on-campus contact. Keeping all of the above college moving tips in mind will make moving-day
easier. Another way to do that is by hiring the help of a professional moving
company. The team at Fallon Moving & Storage can take care of everything
